TESLA Semi. Coming to Continental Express in 2019

Continental Express Takes First Step Toward Future of Transportation

On November 16th the electronic automaker, Tesla, Inc. announced production of its new fully electric Class 8 Tractor.  In anticipation of this event, Continental Express has placed a reservation with Tesla and is expecting to receive its first Class 8 tractor in 2019.  The new Class 8 tractor is expected change the transportation industry much like home computers and cell phones have changed our daily lives over the past 20 years.  For starters, the truck is 100% electric, so, not only is it cleaner but it is also more efficient.  Since the truck lacks a combustible engine, transmission, and emission systems, it automatically has fewer moving parts and therefore requires less maintenance.  In addition, Tesla guarantees the electronic drivetrain of the truck to last 1 million miles.

What is more, even though there is nothing under the hood except for storage, it has the capability to easily pull 80,000 pounds.  As a matter of fact, the Class 8 can pull 80,000 pounds at 65 mph up a 5% grade.  Fully loaded, it can also accelerate from 0 – 60 in 20 seconds, and 0 – 60 in 5 seconds unloaded.  The truck is powered by 4 electronic motors at each wheel and has a range of 500 miles per charge.  Nevertheless, Tesla has designed the brakes of the truck to also act as generators and assures that the truck can completely regenerate a full charge in 30 minutes while a driver is taking a break or at a shipper or receiver.

Inside the cab is no less impressive than its outward capabilities and appearance.  In the Class 8, Tesla has placed the driver in the middle of the cab with full view of the road.  Cameras replace the mirrors of the truck which display their feed on two touch screens located on each side of the steering wheel that also act as the truck’s instrument panels and communication system.  The truck also has many “smart” features.  To start with, it is capable of integrating with a company’s fleet management system that supports the routing, tracking, and load scheduling for the truck.  The truck’s “Driver Assist Technology” maintains lane control, following distance, and can sense if the driver falls asleep or becomes unresponsive, thereby, maintaining lane control and slowing the truck to a safe stop.  If that wasn’t enough, the tractor’s safety system has a feature to prevent jackknifes by automatically adjusting the torque to each wheel.

With the features and benefits the Class 8 tractor provides, it seems that it is a matter of time before large portions of the transportation industry starts using electronic vehicles in their fleets.  Continental Express is excited to be one of the first to take a step towards the future of our industry.

Continental Express Susan G Komen Pink Truck Officially Hit the Road on Monday 07/25/16

SIDNEY,OH - Continental Express unveiled a brand new 2016 pink Susan G Komen Freightliner truck last fall in honor of numerous employees who have fought and survived cancer.

Over the last 9 months, the pink truck has been present at multiple cancer awareness and fundraising events, including a 5K sponsored by Continental. All proceeds were donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation. The truck was also recently featured in a Divas with a Purpose breast cancer calendar.

“The purpose of the pink truck is to raise awareness and support for breast cancer and all types of cancer and to honor all of our employees who have fought or been affected by this disease,” said Russell Gottemoeller, President of Continental Express. “You don’t see too many pink trucks traveling down the highway, and this should definitely bring awareness to this honorable cause.”

Monday, July 25, 2016, the pink truck officially hit the highway. Continental Express driver, Robert Price, was approached by Gottemoeller last week and asked if he would be willing to make the pink truck his permanently assigned tractor. Price quickly agreed. Price and his teammate, Scott Strohmenger, are the perfect pair to drive this truck as they both have been deeply affected by cancer. Price is a survivor and Strohmenger is currently undergoing treatment.

“I know these 2 will drive this truck with pride,” said Gottemoeller.

Continental Express employees had a send-off ceremony for the two drivers on Monday.

If you see the truck on the highway, be sure to honk or wave! #CEPinkTruck

Continental Express, Inc. Acquires Ranger Refrigerated

Continental Express, Inc. has announced the acquisition of Ranger Refrigerated Express Corporation for an undisclosed sum on April 1, 2013. Ranger Refrigerated is based in Fort Worth, Texas and serves primarily the Texas market. Continental Express, Inc. is a national refrigerated logistics company based in Sidney, OH. The new Fort Worth location will join Continental?s current terminals in Sidney, Ohio; Gaffney, South Carolina; Danville, Virginia; and Louisville, Kentucky.
?Logistically this makes perfect sense for our current business strategy and also for future expansion plans,? says owner Russell Gottemoeller. ?We currently have a good presence in Texas but lack the physical location to continue to expand in this market. Bringing this facility into the Continental network will allow us to service all of Texas and the entire Southwest United States. This location, strategically sought out in Texas, will now provide our drivers and trucks with a home base in the Southwest. There will no longer be the need to consistently bring these trucks back to the Midwest or Southeast. This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to our customers in the Southwest, as well as our commitment to grow.?
Continental Express, in addition to acquiring the local terminal facility in Fort Worth, TX, has hired existing Ranger Refrigerated employees. The company also plans to hire additional drivers and support staff. Continental now employs over 420 drivers, mechanics and office staff companywide. ?Our business plan includes continued annual growth. This requires additional staff and drivers who have first-hand knowledge of the region in order to maintain the high levels of service that Continental?s customers have come to expect.? Gottemoeller said. ?We very much look forward to further developing in the Southwest through the addition of the Ranger Refrigerated team.?
